Have you forgotten your old whatsapp number? 🙂 ok. Try to clear the app data using Settings:> Apps :> Whatsapp :> Clear Data. Open the app and you can now sign up with a new number. If it works, enjoy with your whatsapp. Otherwise, Try to uninstall the Whatsapp app and install it and try with a new number. I hope it resolves the issue.

I was using a number in the UK: +44X
After moving to India, I continued using this for WhatsApp. With each iPhone upgrade I was able to avoid changing to local number so WhatsApp has consistently been +44 for 6 or so years.
Upgrading to iPhone 7… it seems neither iCloud backup or iTunes manual backup will let me just ‘use’ without verifying. The +44 sim card is in a safe place abroad, but inaccessible.

I think you are using windows phone 7.x version. If you are using windows Phone with such OS, you will get such error like “Can’t register with this phone number. You can only register with the phone number that was last used with whatsapp on this phone”. Pls check if you are latest version of Windows OS phone. If not, you can try on Android/iOs phone.

TextNow number doesn’t work anymore. It will say invalid phone number as TextNow phone number are all VOIP numbers. Not sure about other countries, but it doesn’t work in Canada.
